IT’S no real surprise that Juan Cuadrado is on his way back to Serie A as he puts the finishing touches to his move from Chelsea to Juventus after a medical today.
But the big question is…will this open the door for Jose Mourinho to step up his interest in Paul Pogba?
It also remains to be seen whether 27-year-old Colombian Cuadrado will complete a permanent deal, or join the ‘Old Lady’ on a season-long loan.
Having moved to Stamford Bridge from Fiorentina in February, he failed to make the impact Mourinho had hoped for although he did play a supporting role in the club’s Premier League and Capital One Cup triumphs.
Cuadrado was one of Colombia’s star players at last year’s World Cup finals and signed a four-and-a-half year contract with Chelsea but it seems the club are already prepared to offload him.
It will inevitably lead to suggestions France midfielder Pogba, the former Manchester United midfielder, will make the switch in the opposite direction, with a move in excess of £60m already mooted.
Cuadrado is disappointed his move to Chelsea didn’t work out the way he had hoped but he is looking forward to the next challenge in is career, back in Italy.
“We all know that Juve is a great club, among the best teams in Europe. They have everything to win the Scudetto (Serie A),” Cuadrado said on Juventus’ official website.
“I hope I can give Juventus my best, 100 per cent. I didn’t expect to receive such a warm welcome from the fans in Italy but they have always welcomed me with open arms and that makes me very happy.
“The fans’ support will give me further motivation to do well. The league has only started and we hope we can defend the title.”
Chelsea boss Mourinho refused to discuss Pogba last Friday but the rumours remain and it would be one hell of a coup for the reigning champions. Another dagger to Manchester United hearts!
